The Season of Giving - Day 4

Day 4 is dedicated to the Burlington Humane Society on behalf of Cat Crawford, Corporate Clerk & Sarah Nadon, Articling Student.

Formed by members of the community in 1974, the Burlington Humane Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping Burlington’s stray and abandoned animals. They believe that each and every animal that comes into their care deserves a better life, and has the right to a safe and loving home.

Their vision is to sustain their existing reputation as being a premier no-kill humane society in Ontario.  They strive to continually improve protocols and practices in order to ensure exemplary care for the residents and to act ethically and in the best interests of both animals and potential adopters.

Burlington Humane Society’s Ultimate Goal:

To live in a city where there are no abandoned, unwanted, neglected or abused animals, and where every owner understands the level of commitment and responsibility that pet ownership entails.

Services

COMMUNITY WORK
Since 1984, an active Pet Therapy Program has served the community with weekly visits to local facilities including retirement homes, nursing homes, hospice and other residence homes.

OUTREACH PROGRAM
Teaching responsible pet ownership and animal behaviour is the goal of the education program. Volunteers and their pets visit schools and community groups with presentations on safety, respect, care and compassion toward animals.

While Covid-19 was hard on individuals, many adopted pets as companions, but as back to work initiatives begin many animals are being surrendered to humane societies. Burlington also has a no-kill shelter which i find to be amazing
— Sarah Nadon
I have a soft spot for animals.  I have taken more lost animals then I care to mention.  Dogs, Rabbits, Geese, and even a frozen Hen we found on the side of the road.  Long story, but we thawed him out brought him back to life and knocked on every farm house until we found someone to take him.
