“On the fourth day of giving, my law firm gave to me,
A donation to the Cancer Society.”
For our fourth day of giving, we are proud to have selected the Canadian Cancer Society.
The Canadian Cancer Society is a national, community-based organization of 130,000 volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enchancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer.
The latest Canadian Cancer Statistics report found that of all newly diagnosed cancers in 2017, half are expected to be lung, colorectal, breast, and prostate cancers; and nearly 1 in 2 Canadians is expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. This is why research is so important to this critical disease.
Investing in the best research has led to tremendous progress against cancer. Canadians now know more about what causes cancer, how it develops, how best to treat it, and how we can improve the quality of life of people living with cancer. Today, about 60% of Canadians diagnosed with cancer will survive at least 5 years after their diagnosis. In the 1940s, survival was about 25%.
Every year, researchers working in hospitals, academic, and research centers across Canada apply for funds through the Canadian Cancer Society. They seek support for a variety of cancer research projects – from basic lab research to clinical trials to studies in cancer prevention, population health, and quality of life. The Canadian Cancer Society offers research grants and awards to individuals and to teams or groups of researchers.

Creating A World Where No Canadian Fears Cancer
The Canadian Cancer Society has been chosen by one of our Lawyers, Erika Warren. Erika has chosen this charity because a number of her relatives, both recent and over the course of her life, have passed away from different forms of cancer. Erika hopes that by donating to the Canadian Cancer Society, it might help them in their research towards finding a cure.
*A donation to the Canadian Cancer Society has been made in memory of Erika’s family member, Isolino Picanco*
