Estate Planning Lawyers in Burlington, Ontario
Wills & Powers of Attorney Quick Start Guide
Clear, flat-fee pricing and a simple, guided process from first conversation to signed documents.
What's included
A complete estate plan in Ontario is usually made up of three documents. We recommend preparing them together, especially if you are putting a plan in place for the first time.
Will
Names your estate trustee (executor), sets out how your estate is distributed, and can appoint guardians for minor children.
Continuing Power of Attorney for Property
Appoints someone to manage your finances and property if you are unable to.
Power of Attorney for Personal Care
Appoints someone to make health and personal care decisions if you become incapacitated.
Powers of Attorney are sometimes called a "living Will." They are just as important as your Will because they protect you while you are alive but unable to make decisions for yourself.
Good to know
- Flexible roles: different people can serve as guardian and trustee, and inheritances for children can be staged by age.
- Business owners: a Secondary or Corporate Will can be prepared alongside your primary Will to address private company assets and help reduce probate costs.
- Guardians: we recommend choosing guardians who live in Canada where possible; other options can be discussed with your lawyer.

How the process works
-
Contact our office by phone, email, or through our website. We'll confirm which documents you need, answer initial questions, and open your file.
-
We'll email each person their own private link to our secure online estate planning platform. It asks the right questions to build your client profile and helps us map out how everything links together, creating a clear road map for your plan. For couples, the questionnaires are linked so information doesn't need to be entered twice. It is thorough, but it doesn't need to be fully completed for us to draft your documents.
-
A lawyer reviews your wishes, answers your questions, and confirms your instructions. For a straightforward plan, expect about 30 to 60 minutes, in our office or by video conference.
-
Our team drafts your documents to your specifications and sends them to you for review. Any revisions are usually handled by email.
-
Once the drafts are approved, we book a separate appointment to review and sign everything. You take your signed originals home; we keep scanned copies for our records.
